Laser depilation aftercare: what to do in the first 48 hours
By Revive Beauty Solutions Laser + Aesthetics | August 2, 2026
Need a quick check-in after your appointment? We support clients across London, ON and nearby towns, including Komoka, Arva, Dorchester, Lambeth, and Mount Brydges.
Our number one rule after laser hair removal is simple: keep the area cool, clean, and out of the sun for the first 48 hours. A lot of our clients tell us they feel comfortable and completely at ease in our spotless, professional space, and we want that same calm feeling to continue once you walk out the door in London.
0 to 24 hours after laser hair removal: cool it down, don’t “test” your skin
Right after a laser treatment for hair removal, a little warmth, pinkness, or a mild sunburn-like feel is common. Your goal for day one is to avoid heat, friction, and anything that stings. Keep it boring. Boring skin heals best.
Quick checklist (first day): cool compresses as needed, lukewarm shower, gentle cleanser, fragrance-free moisturizer, and no direct sun.
Do this
- Use a cool compress for 5 to 10 minutes at a time if you feel heat.
- Shower with lukewarm water. Pat dry, don’t rub.
- Moisturize with a fragrance-free lotion. If it tingles, skip it and tell us.
- Wear loose clothing over treated areas to cut down friction, especially for underarms, bikini, and legs.
Avoid this
- Hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, heating pads, hot yoga.
- Sweaty workouts for at least 24 hours. Heat plus friction is the combo that usually causes extra irritation.
- Swimming, hot tubs, lakes for 48 to 72 hours (chlorine and bacteria are not your friend right now).
- Perfume, heavily scented body wash, scrubs, retinoids, acids, or exfoliating gloves on the treated area.
“The treatment was quick and surprisingly comfortable.”

24 to 72 hours: the “looks fine” stage where sun and heat still matter
Day two is where people slip up because the skin often looks calmer. Keep protecting it. In London summers, UV can surprise you even on a quick errand run. And if you’re heading outdoors to Fanshawe Conservation Area or over to Masonville Place, treat sunscreen like part of your outfit.
Sun rules we actually want you to follow
- Avoid direct sun for two weeks on treated areas when you can. If you can’t, cover up and use SPF.
- Use a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ on exposed treated skin. Reapply if you’re outside for extended time.
- Skip tanning beds completely during your laser hair reduction series.
Exercise, makeup, and shaving in this window
- Gym: many people return after 24 hours if the area feels calm. If you’re getting extra redness from friction, give it another day.
- Makeup: if we treated your face, wait 24 hours and keep it light and non-irritating. Clean brushes help.
- Shaving: you can usually shave after 24 hours, as long as the skin isn’t sore. Use a clean razor and gentle shaving cream. No waxing or threading on the treated area between sessions.
Days 3 to 7: keep your laser waxing results on track (and don’t pick)
By day three, most skin looks normal, but the hair follicles are still doing their thing under the surface. You might notice a little dryness or tiny “peppery” dots as hairs start to shed later. That’s normal. Picking is the part that gets people into trouble.
Busy schedule tip: If you booked a lunchtime appointment near Hyde Park Road, keep aftercare simple for the week. Gentle wash, moisturizer, SPF, and you’re done.
- Hold off on retinoids, exfoliating acids, scrubs, and harsh actives on the treated area for 7 days.
- Keep avoiding heat spikes (saunas, very hot baths) if you’re still getting redness.
- Don’t wax, sugar, or epilate. Laser depilation targets the follicle, so we need the hair root in place between sessions.
- If you notice “shedding, ” let it happen on its own. A gentle washcloth is fine, aggressive scrubbing isn’t.
The simple product routine we like after laser hair removal
We keep your product list short because skin is usually more reactive right after laser hair removal. Stick with gentle basics for the first week, then ease back into your normal routine.
Use
- A gentle, fragrance-free cleanser
- A fragrance-free moisturizer (light layer, more often if you’re dry)
- A broad-spectrum SPF 30+ on any exposed treated skin
Avoid for 7 days
- Retinoids, strong acids, exfoliating pads, scrubs
- Scented body oils and perfumes on the treated area
- Anything that burns when you apply it
When to reach out to our London team (and what’s normal)
We’re big on clear explanations and “no rushing, no pressure” care, and that doesn’t stop after your appointment. If something feels off, tell us. Clients come back for years because they feel looked after, especially when they’re nervous at first.
Call or email us if you notice
- Severe redness that keeps getting worse after 24 to 48 hours
- Blistering, broken skin, or significant swelling
- Pus, spreading warmth, fever, or any sign of infection
While you’re waiting to hear back, keep the area clean, stop all active products, and use cool compresses. Don’t pick or scrub.
We’re located in Hyde Park in northwest London, and we can usually help quickly with a same-week follow-up check if you’re coming off Hyde Park Road. For aftercare support, reach us at +15198513560 or revivebeautysolutions@gmail.com. Our clinic details are Hyde park, London, ON N6H5M7.
